Altteureu Airfield Hanger

Altteureu Airfield was constructed and developed by Imperial Japan in the late 1920s and early 1930s on Jeju Island for the purpose of sending air raids to China, most notably to Nanjing. When Japan’s defeat became apparent in World War II, several dozen concrete hangers were built in 1944 to protect and conceal Kamakaze suicide aircraft under the “Decisive Operation No. 7”. A total of 20 hangers out of 38 are still intact now amid crop fields near the coastline. (EXPIRED FILM: 04/2004)
